Leinenkugel’s – Fireside Nut Brown

At long last, back to the beer blog. There have been many changes in my life of late, yet sweet sweet beer has been a constant throughout my recent turmoil. An anchor, if you will; helping me to keep a foothold in reality while many significant aspects of my life shuffled around. And now that things have settled down, I feel I'm indebted to my beloved beer for helping me to keep my head clear at times, and enabling me to fuzz it up when necessary. So for this most recent jump back into the realm of bloggery, I've decided to go with Leinenkugel's Fireside Nut Brown.
What's more comforting than a roaring fire in the midst of autumn? Clearly the answer is a beer! And a beer whose label claims to integrate the comfort of a firesire must be sampled! I've never been a huge advocate of Leinenkugel's, but I've never actively avoided them either. So lets get to the beer then:
As you may not be able to tell from my craptacular phone picture of this particular brew, the color here is a bit of a cloudy, coppery brown (as one might expect from a "nut brown"). I'm not thrilled with the aroma... in fact it's a bit weak. It may be my glass corrupting the scent, but I really can't place what this smell reminds me of... though one thing it doesn't smell like is beer. Take from that what you will.
Flavor wise, I'm underwhelmed. I was expecting a full-bodied, complex beer with a bit of a nutty flavor and perhaps even a smokey finish. In reality what I got was a relatively smooth feeling that just tastes cheap to me. It reminds me more of a pilsner than a nut brown.
So I suppose this one gets a 5 out of 10... it could be worse (but I'd rather it be better)
