Jacobsen – Dark Lager
So I thought today seemed like a good day for beer drinking, although honestly what day isn't? Anyway my selection for today was carefully chosen based on the following time tested criteria:
1 - I wanted beer
2 - This beer was on sale
3 - It looked good and I wanted it
So after passing this rigorous trial, Jacobsen's Dark Lager can count itself among the select few (many) beers to be drunk by me.
And so on to the tasting.
Jacobsen smells a bit fruity at first, although those aromas are weak and quickly give way to an almost yeasty smell. When tasting this brew, those fruity aromas kind of make their way back, but are a bit muted. This actually reminds me quite a bit of Chimay Blue, only with a much weaker flavor (and much smaller price tag). Somewhere in between lifting the glass and swallowing, there's a weak, but distinct caramel flavor as well. All in all I'm pretty pleased with this find. I was actually expecting something like a dark, smokey beer but what I found was a not-too-overpowering, somewhat fruity dark lager that finishes surprisingly smooth. I'd recommend this stuff in a second. And to top it all off, it was on sale! Hooray!
So I guess my frugal find here scores about a 7
